Types of Alumni and Community Donations:

  • Participation in annual Foundation events
  • Monitory donations
  • Memorial gifts
  • Estate Planning with the Foundation as a charitable beneficiary
  • Insurance policies with the Foundation as beneficiary
  • Marketable assets gifted to the Foundation
  • Real property
  • Company matching contributions
  • In-kind donations such as volunteer time, equipment, supplies, prizes, etc.

Michigan law permits individuals and businesses to reduce their Michigan income tax by up to $100 (for a $200 gift) for single, and $200 (for a $400 gift) for joint returns.  Michigan Single Business Tax allows up to five percent of the corporation's tax liability or a gift of up to $10,000, credit up to $5,000, whichever is less.  That's a possible tax credit of up to 50 percent of the amount contributed to the Foundation.  this credit is in addition to the deduction for federal income tax purposes.  All contributions are acknowledged with a letter from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.
