Varsity Letter Criteria

Thanks to the recent success of our varsity program, it has become increasingly difficult to earn a spot on the varsity roster. Since the varsity squad is composed of just seven young men, it has become necessary to set up additional criteria for earning a varsity letter. In order to earn a varsity letter you must do at least one of the following things:

• Have a mean (average) of 7 or less on the varsity ladder.
• Run in at least 4 varsity invitationals.
• Run varsity at the Metro League Championship meet or the MHSAA Regional
• Be on the cross country team, in good standing, for at least 3 full seasons.
• Finish ahead of the opponent’s 5^th man 50% of the time in league duals.
• Finish a measured 5k in under 18:00 at least two times during the season.

Assuming you meet at least one of the criteria above, you must also do each of the following:

• Be on time and attend practice regularly with no unexcused absences.
• Have no violation concerning unacceptable behavior as outlined in the athletic code of conduct or our team rules.
• Have the recommendation of the coach.

Any athlete that does not meet the varsity standard, but displays good sportsmanship and a positive attitude will earn a junior varsity letter.
