SUPERINTENDENT
REPORTS
Superintendent
Koledo informed the Board that student count was 3045, down six from
Friday,
October 2
Mr. Koledo informed the Board he was invited to speak as a guest speaker
at a Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals on “Stories of Success”.
At the
GISD Superintendents’ Meeting, there was discussion on the H1N1 vaccine and a
plan
to inoculate all students free of charge at the schools. There is nothing in the works for the staff
at this time through the school.
Clint
Lawhorne, cross country coach, received Coach of the Year honors.
STUDENT BOARD REPORTS
Kevin George, student council representative,
reported the success of the recent blood drive.
Students
donated 44 pints of blood.
Homecoming
events: Seniors won the Powder Puff
game. Conner Everhart was crowned
king
and Emily Bond was crowned queen. The
junior class took top honors for best float and
fence
decorations.
LHS
will be conducting their 14th canned food drive.
The
Linden Band Invitational will be held on Saturday, October 10.

SPECIAL
PRESENTATIONS
Beverly Knox-Pipes, GISD, gave a Power Point
presentation on Blackboard, an electronic-
paperless
board packet and board meetings. The
Board is interested in learning more about
this
program. Mrs. Jensen will contact the GISD
to learn more about the pros and cons and
report
back to the board.
Stephen
Blann, Rehmann-Robson auditing firm, presented the results of the 2009-09
fiscal
year audit of the
Cheryl
Thomas, Director of Curriculum and Instructional Services, shared the 2008-09
Annual
Report. The report will be placed on the
district website, www.lindenschools.org.

DISCUSSION
8th
Grade Julie Brown,
principal, presented the 8th Grade Washington, D.C. trip request to
the Board of Washington, D.C. Education. One hundred sixty 8th grade students will travel to
Washington D.C. November Trip Request 3-8,
2009. This item will be placed on the
October 21st agenda under Old Business for
approval.
Red Close Mike Engelter, assistant
superintendent, explained to the board that the rules are changing Scholarship for the management of endowment
scholarships. His plan is to move the
scholarship under
the
management of the Linden Community Education Foundation.
Discussion on Mr. Koledo stated the GCASBM has
asked each school board in the county to look at passing Statewide Health a resolution in
supported of a continued study of alternative health care options for state
Insurance for employees. There was discussion among board members on
the pros and cons of this idea. Public

Rick Kursik attended many school events. Mr. Kursik stated it was great to see Cliff
Totzke, retired teacher, as the Grand Marshall of the Homecoming Parade. Mr. Kursik has received many compliments from
individuals complimenting how well the school grounds look. The grounds have never looked better.
Scott Maker echoed Mr. Kursik’s comments. Mr. Maker commented on the new receptacles,
which were designed by one of our high school students, Cameron Germaine. The girls’ golf season is ended well and they
qualified for the MHSAA State Finals.
Steve Murphy attended the Genesee County Association
of School Board Members meeting. There was
an update from the GISD political representative on health care issues. Tomiko Fisher, Executive Assistant to the
GISD Superintendent, gave a Blackboard presentation. An update on the Mega Conference was also given. The GCASBM Holiday Gathering will be November
10 in Frankenmuth. The GCASBM’s Fall
Program will focus on social networking.
Laura Starrs stated Homecoming was a lot of fun and
the dance was great with 550 in attendance.
Mrs. Starrs reminded board members of the MASB Fall Conference and
Delegate Assembly. The MASB is also
offering some complimentary CBA classes at the conference.
