Course Objectives

To develop the four language skills of learning a world language:

listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

To gain an understanding and appreciation for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.

 

Grading Policy

Grades are determined by the total number of points earned in each quarter.

Homework 5-30 pts                      100-93 = A    79-76 = C+     62-60 = D-

Quizzes 10-50 pts                        90-92 = A-     75-73 = C      59 AND BELOW = E

Tests 50-100 pts.                         89-86 = B+     72-70 = C-

Projects 20-80 pts.                      85-83 = B      69-67 = D+

Daily activities 5-30 pts.               82-80 = B-     66-63 = D-

 

Procedures for class work

1. Each assignment must include the following located in the upper right hand corner.

Spanish name and last name                          EXAMPLE: Felipe Smith

Assignment / pg. # + activities                                    p. 39 A-3-8

Date in Spanish                                                        el 3 de septiembre

 

2. The assignment is due when you first enter the room, unless otherwise stated.     Late work is not accepted. Place work in designated areas to be turned in and returned.

 

3. If absent you are responsible to check the bulletin board labeled specifically for your class for any missed work. 

 

4. Work can only be made up for excused absences.  The number of days absent is the number of days you get to make up any assignments.  Absent work can only be turned in the designated area. 

 

5.  Appointments must be made on the calendar w/ my approval to make up any tests, quizzes or to receive extra help.  If an appointment is not made within three days of missing a test or quiz it can not be made up.  Furthermore all tests and quizzes must be made up within a week of the original date.  * Please keep in mind I will not contact you for a missing test or quiz therefore if the above action doesn’t occur you will receive a zero.

 

Resources available in the classroom

There are markers, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, magazines, newspapers, dictionaries and construction paper. Please treat all these items with respect!  Keep the area neat and clean. After using the above items please put them back in proper area.

 

 

My computer is off limits to all students. You are responsible to make other arrangements to use a computer.  Do not walk behind my desk,   Do not open cabinet drawers in my room.  Please do not use any items on my desk!  

 

 

Necessary items for class each day!

1.     Folder or binder for Spanish class within 1st week of class!

  1. Notebook / loose leaf paper for taking notes in Spanish.
  2. LMS PLANNER
  3. Pencil or pen. 
  4. Textbook for 8th grade Explore and Spanish I. 
  5. 7th grade explore has packets which they may keep in my room in assigned bookcase bins.  Each students has own number to keep supplies in.
  6. Homework/ assignments / workbook packet or worksheets

8.  *Textbooks are not to be used as a folder for storing papers!

 

Procedures and expectations in the classroom

PLEASE FOLLOW AND RESPECT ALL SCHOOL RULES DEFINED IN SCHOOL PLANNER

Here are additional rules specific to my classroom:

 

Rule #1  Be in your seat prepared for class when the bell rings. Do not line up at the door

Rule #2  Respect other people, their property and space, and the learning environment.

Rule #3  Raise your hand to answer/ ask a question or to make a comment.

Rule #4 Cheating will result in a zero.  Copying will result in a zero for both parties.

Rule #5                  5 SECOND HAND RAISE = 5 components-

1.     eyes on speaker, 2.  quiet, 3. be still, 4.  hands free 5.  listen

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world!

 

Helpful hints

Write out Spanish words, phrases and verb forms on index cards or paper.

Say the Spanish words aloud while doing homework or when writing out vocabulary.

Speak Spanish with a friend or family member.

Watch a movie on a DVD in Spanish with English subtitles.
