Media Productions—8th Grade

The primary responsibility of students in this class will be to produce the daily announcements on WLMS.  Students will learn non-linear video editing using a variety of programs in both a PC and MAC environment.  In addition to editing, students will learn lighting techniques, sound management, script writing, and proper use of a variety of types of video and digital cameras.  In addition to the news, students will complete a variety of media projects for the school and the community.  Worthy projects will be submitted to Channel 19 for broadcast on cable TV.

6th Grade Computers

Keyboarding and introduction/reinforcement of several applications will be the major emphasis in this 9 week course for 6th graders.  Students will develop skills in Microsoft Word, Publisher, Powerpoint and will also have the opportunity to do some desktop publishing, photo editing, Internet searches and exploration.  Seventh grade students will also publish their own newspaper each quarter.

7th Grade Computers

Students will tune-up their keyboarding skills, write a newspaper, create PowerPoint presentations with video and music, and further develop their application skills.  “How a Computer Works” will also be explored as students will learn all the important parts and functions of computers and have a change to take a computer apart and put it back together.  Students will improve their Internet skills and refine their research techniques.

8th Grade Computers

8th graders will continue to work on the skills learned in previous grades (or develop those basic skills if students are new to computers).  The focus in 8th grade will primarily be project based.  Students will work with spreadsheet and charting basics and learn to merge information from one application into another.  Additional projects will include PowerPoint presentations using video and audio media, desktop publishing, photo editing, creation and editing of a movie and a podcast, and create their own music using GarageBand.
