Mrs. Crumm’s Language Arts

Welcome to your Eighth grade year!!! I hope that this year is your best yet. I have moved to the Eighth grade this year and am very excited to get started. I have high hopes for a fun and successful year.

What you will need for my class:

ü      One 1-inch binder labeled Language Arts

ü      One pack (of at least 5) subject dividers with labels

ü      One single subject notebook

ü      A novel, of your choice, is to be brought to class EVERYDAY.

Assignments and Homework:

ü      Assignments and agenda will be posted everyday in the classroom and on Parent Web.

ü      Assignments are due on given due dates.  Late assignments will only be accepted one day after due date for ½ credit. Assignments not turned in within that time will receive no credit.

ü      Students are responsible for getting information/assignments while they were absent. Handouts will be tagged to the front bulletin board. Work is to be completed according to the Student Handbook.

Reading Logs – Students are expected to complete at least 5 hours of independent reading every two weeks. In order to get credit you must complete a reading log and turn it in when due. All information must be filled in to get full credit. 30 points every two weeks.

Independent Reading – Everyday class will begin with 10-15 minutes of silent reading. This is not an option. You must be prepared when class begins with a book of your choice.

As a Language Arts teacher and a lover of books, we will be doing a lot of reading this year. For those that do not like to read, my challenge this year is to get you to love it. For those that already love the joy of reading, it is my challenge to get you to enjoy books that you never would have thought to read.

Expectations:

As eighth grade students this year, I have high expectations. Students are to be in their seats and prepared before class begins. I expect all students to be respectful of each other and themselves. They are to comply with all rules that are listed in the Student Handbook.  I will not hesitate at anytime to call and involve parents in situations that do not hold up to these expectations. And I encourage parents to call at anytime if they are concerned in any way about their child’s success in my classroom.

I look forward to the new year. I am very excited about spending the next 9 months with all of you.
